Our cozy rustic cabin has been custom built with spruce and pine logs from our own property and a local sawmill. We have provided you with everything you need for a relaxing retreat or “staycation”.
Lodgepole Pine Log Queen Bed with Skylight
Dominating one corner of our cabin is a massive lodgepole pine log queen bed that Paul hand-crafted with logs sourced from the Devil’s Head Ranch west of Cochrane. Sweet dreams in this fantastic log bed are guaranteed with a queen memory foam mattress, organic linens and plenty of blankets and pillows.
Bedside and floor lamps throughout the cabin are designed using horseshoes provided by Paul in his trade as a farrier.
Cozy Furniture & Wood Stove
The cozy leather loveseat is situated so that you can sit and become mesmerized by the flames flickering in the wood stove. Open the massive sliding glass barn door when you get too warm! The blanket box in front of the loveseat contains an extra blanket and our favorite board and card games. Several books that you must read about the YaHaTinda and local Alberta ranchers and cowboys, are sitting on the shelf waiting for you to enjoy learning their history and stories.
Built In Log Kitchen Counter
The kitchen counter features an enormous slab of spruce wood that came from a tree in the woods on our farm that we sourced out, cut, hand milled, and designed. The result is the beautiful live edge countertop where you will enjoy making your coffee and prepping your meals on. The counter in the outhouse is also from the same slab of spruce wood.
Antique Back Door Leading to the Back Deck
Located beside the kitchen counter is the back door which leads directly out onto our deck. We scored this amazing antique door from the Hayhurst Grocery and Meat Market in Turner Valley. This business was established back in 1905 and operated until the late 1990’s. We have chosen to not make any changes to this door so that you can experience it in its original state. To add to your experience, we have also left the creaking sounds in the beautiful spruce wood floor.
Sliding Glass Barn Door
One of the most unique features of our cabin is the huge sliding glass barn door. During cooler weather, the door can be left closed, allowing you to enjoy the beauty of the outdoors through the 6’ foot window in the sliding door. When the weather is warmer – open this sliding glass barn door and the world opens up for you. You will soon find that this is the only door that you will use!!
The private outhouse located behind the cabin includes the unique handmade live edge log counter. Hanging on the wall over the counter is a beautiful bathroom mirror that Paul has edged with one of his own calf roping competition ropes. An outside shower and huge freestanding soaking bathtub will be installed in the spring. Hot water will be unlimited with an on-demand propane water heater. How cool is that! We can hardly wait for spring!
Deck with BBQ
Enjoy the massive deck. To cook your meals on the BBQ, to access the restroom, and to sit in the cushioned Adirondack chairs while you enjoy your morning coffee watching the gorgeous sunrise or sip a glass of wine in the late afternoon sun. Step off the deck to trek into the woods and explore the many trails. When evening falls, build a fire in the firepit, have a seat on the cushioned wood chairs beside the fire and maybe create some yummy S'Mores! Life cannot get any better than this!
